Väritekijät is a Finnish term that translates to "color factors" or "coloring agents." In a biological context, it refers to substances within an organism that are responsible for producing or influencing its color. These can include pigments, structural components, or even symbiotic microorganisms.

Pigments are the most common väritekijät. These are molecules that absorb certain wavelengths of light and reflect others, which is what we perceive as color.
