Värikomponentit refer to the individual numerical values that define a specific color within a given color model. When an image or a display is created, the colors are not stored as a single entity but rather as a set of values that represent its constituent parts. Different color models utilize different sets of components.

The most common color model for digital displays and image processing is RGB (Red, Green, Blue). In the RGB model, a color is defined by the intensity of its red, green, and blue components. Each component typically ranges from 0 to 255, where 0 means no intensity of that color and 255 means full intensity. For example, pure red would be represented as (255, 0, 0), black as (0, 0, 0), and white as (255, 255, 255).

Another widely used color model, particularly in printing, is CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black). Here, colors are represented by the amounts of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black ink needed to reproduce them. Unlike RGB, CMYK values are often expressed as percentages, where 0% means no ink and 100% means full coverage of that ink.

Other color models exist, such as HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) and HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value), which represent colors in a more perceptually intuitive way. Hue describes the pure color, saturation the intensity of the color, and lightness or value the brightness.
