Väriimetykseen refers to a Finnish term that describes the phenomenon of color bleeding or migrating in dyed materials. This can occur in fabrics, paper, paints, and other colored substances. The process is essentially the unintended transfer of color from one area to another, often when the material is exposed to moisture, heat, or friction.

The underlying mechanisms of väriimetykseen are rooted in the chemistry of dyes and the materials they are applied to. Dyes are typically organic compounds that absorb and reflect specific wavelengths of light, giving them their color. When a dye is not fully fixed to the material, or if the material itself is porous, the dye molecules can become mobile.
