Vázizomszövet, also known as skeletal muscle tissue, is one of the three types of muscle tissue found in the human body, along with smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. It is responsible for voluntary movements of the body. Skeletal muscle tissue is characterized by its striated appearance, which is due to the regular arrangement of contractile proteins called actin and myosin within the muscle fibers.

These muscle fibers are long, multinucleated cells that are bundled together by connective tissue. Each fiber contains numerous myofibrils, which are the functional units of muscle contraction. When a nerve impulse stimulates a muscle fiber, it triggers a series of events that cause the actin and myosin filaments to slide past each other, resulting in muscle shortening or contraction.

Skeletal muscles are attached to bones via tendons, allowing for the transmission of force and movement of the skeleton. This type of muscle tissue is crucial for locomotion, posture, and maintaining body temperature through heat generation during metabolic processes. It is also involved in breathing and facial expressions.

The contraction of skeletal muscle can be either rapid and powerful or slow and sustained, depending on the type of muscle fiber and the demands placed upon it. While skeletal muscle is under voluntary control, some reflexes mediated by the nervous system can also cause involuntary contractions. Damage to skeletal muscle can result from injury, overuse, or disease, leading to weakness, pain, and loss of function.
