Voltímetro is a Spanish term referring to a voltmeter, an electrical instrument used to measure the electric potential difference between two points in an electric circuit. This potential difference is commonly known as voltage. Voltmeters are essential tools for diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical problems, as well as for verifying the proper operation of electronic devices and power systems.

Voltmeters are designed to be connected in parallel with the component or circuit section across which the voltage is to be measured. This parallel connection ensures that the voltmeter draws a minimal amount of current from the circuit, thereby not significantly affecting the voltage being measured. Most voltmeters have a high internal resistance for this reason.

There are several types of voltmeters, including analog voltmeters, which use a moving coil galvanometer, and digital voltmeters (DVMs), which display the voltage reading numerically using an electronic display. Digital voltmeters are generally more precise and easier to read than their analog counterparts. Voltmeters can measure both direct current (DC) voltage and alternating current (AC) voltage. Specialized voltmeters exist for measuring very high or very low voltages, or for specific frequency ranges.
