A voimansiirtäjä, a Finnish term, translates to "power transmitter" or "power shifter" in English. In a technical context, it refers to a device or component responsible for transferring mechanical power from one location to another, often with a change in speed, torque, or direction. This is a broad category encompassing various mechanisms.

Common examples of voimansiirtäjä include gearboxes, which use meshing gears to alter rotational speed and torque. Belts and pulleys also serve as voimansiirtäjä, transmitting power through a flexible belt connecting rotating pulleys of different sizes to achieve speed reduction or increase. Chain drives, similar to belt drives, use a chain and sprockets for power transmission. Hydraulic systems, employing fluid pressure to transmit power, can also be considered a form of voimansiirtäjä, as can pneumatic systems using compressed air.
