vitrohedelmöitykseen
Vitrohedelmöitys, commonly known as in vitro fertilization or IVF, is a process of fertilization where an egg is combined with sperm outside of the body, in a laboratory dish. The process typically begins with a woman taking fertility medications to stimulate her ovaries to produce multiple eggs. These eggs are then surgically retrieved from the ovaries. Meanwhile, sperm is collected from the male partner or a donor. The eggs and sperm are then brought together in a laboratory setting. Fertilization can occur through conventional IVF, where sperm are placed in the dish with the eggs, or through intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg. Once fertilization is confirmed and embryos begin to develop, one or more embryos are transferred into the woman's uterus. The success rate of IVF varies depending on factors such as the age of the woman, the cause of infertility, and the quality of the embryos. IVF is a complex treatment option for individuals and couples experiencing infertility and is often considered after other fertility treatments have been unsuccessful. It can also be used for genetic screening of embryos before implantation.
