Vikavirtasuojaa is a Finnish term that translates to "fault current protection" or "residual current protection." It refers to a safety device designed to protect electrical circuits and individuals from the dangers of electric shock and fire hazards caused by fault currents.

The primary function of vikavirtasuojaa is to detect small, dangerous currents that leak to earth or other unintended paths. These leakages, known as fault currents, can occur due to damaged insulation, faulty wiring, or accidental contact with live conductors.
