Videonvälitys, also known as video relay service (VRS), is a telecommunications service that allows deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech-impaired individuals to communicate with hearing individuals via video through a sign language interpreter. The service typically operates through a computer, tablet, or smartphone equipped with a webcam and internet connection.

When a deaf or hard-of-hearing person uses VRS, they connect to a sign language interpreter. The interpreter then places a video call to the hearing person. The deaf person signs to the interpreter, who then voices the message to the hearing person over the phone. Conversely, the interpreter watches and interprets the hearing person's spoken words into sign language for the deaf person. This process enables real-time, two-way communication.

VRS is crucial for accessibility, bridging the communication gap between sign language users and those who primarily use spoken language.
