Viasztípusok refers to the various kinds of waxes used for different purposes. Waxes are organic compounds, typically solid at room temperature but meltable without decomposition. They are generally soft, pliable, and insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents.

Natural waxes are derived from plants, animals, or mineral sources. Examples include beeswax, produced by bees, which is used in cosmetics, polishes, and candles. Carnauba wax, from a Brazilian palm tree, is known for its hardness and gloss and is used in polishes, cosmetics, and food coatings. Paraffin wax, a byproduct of petroleum refining, is widely used in candles, wax paper, and as a lubricant. Microcrystalline wax, also from petroleum, is more flexible and adhesive than paraffin and is used in cosmetics, chewing gum, and coatings.

Synthetic waxes are manufactured chemically. Polyethylene waxes are common, used as lubricants, dispersants, and in hot-melt adhesives. Fischer-Tropsch waxes are produced from carbon monoxide and hydrogen and find applications in coatings, polishes, and inks.

The choice of wax depends heavily on its intended application. Properties like melting point, hardness, flexibility, adhesion, and solubility are critical factors. For instance, high melting point waxes are preferred for candles to ensure a slow burn, while softer, more pliable waxes are suitable for cosmetic formulations. The purity and consistency of the wax are also important considerations for specialized uses.
