Vetknobbels, also known as lipomas, are benign tumors composed of fat cells. They are the most common type of soft tissue tumor in adults and are generally harmless. Vetknobbels typically present as soft, movable lumps under the skin. They can vary in size, from very small to several centimeters in diameter. While the exact cause of vetknobbels is unknown, genetics and certain medical conditions like familial multiple lipomatosis are thought to play a role. They are more common in middle-aged adults and can occur anywhere on the body, though they are often found on the trunk, neck, shoulders, and arms.

In most cases, vetknobbels do not cause pain or other symptoms. However, if a vetknobbel grows large or presses on a nerve, it may become uncomfortable or painful. Diagnosis is usually made through a physical examination. Sometimes, imaging techniques like ultrasound or MRI may be used to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other conditions. Treatment is not always necessary, as vetknobbels are benign. If a vetknobbel is causing discomfort, is cosmetically undesirable, or if there is any uncertainty about its nature, it can be surgically removed. The removal is typically a minor procedure performed under local anesthesia. Recurrence after removal is uncommon.
