Verenkuva, Finnish for a blood picture or complete blood count, is a laboratory test that measures components of blood to assess overall health and detect disorders. It typically includes red blood cells (RBCs), hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, white blood cells (WBCs) with a differential, platelets, and red blood cell indices such as mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), as well as red cell distribution width (RDW). In some cases reticulocytes and mean platelet volume (MPV) may be reported. The test is usually performed on a venous blood sample collected in an EDTA tube and analyzed by automated hematology analyzers, with a peripheral blood smear reviewed if abnormalities are detected.
