Veglimit is a theoretical metric used in sustainable agriculture and urban planning to denote the maximum feasible vegetable harvest that a particular agricultural system can sustain annually without compromising long-term productivity or ecosystem health.

The term emerged in discussions around evaluating vegetable production under environmental constraints. It is not a single standardized concept; definitions vary by model, region, and objectives, but all share the core idea of balancing yield with soil health, water resources, and biodiversity.

Calculation involves expressing veglimit as a maximum harvest H_max, determined as the minimum of several subsystems: a soil health limit based on maintaining soil organic matter and nutrient cycling; a water limit based on available supplies; and a biodiversity or ecosystem-services limit to protect habitat. Some models also incorporate socio-economic constraints or risk tolerance.

Applications and limitations: Used by policy makers, planners, and farmers to set production targets, design crop rotations, or allocate water.
