Vasércásványokból refers to minerals from which iron can be economically extracted. These are naturally occurring substances containing iron compounds in sufficient concentration and accessibility to be considered a source of iron. The primary iron ore minerals are oxides, but carbonates and silicates also play a role.

The most important iron ore mineral is hematite, which has the chemical formula Fe2O3. Magnetite, with the formula Fe3O4, is another significant iron ore, notable for its magnetic properties.
