A valgusmõõtur, often translated as a goniometer, is a measuring instrument used to determine angles. In a medical context, it is most commonly employed to measure the range of motion of joints. This can be crucial for assessing injuries, tracking recovery progress after surgery or physical therapy, and diagnosing conditions that affect joint mobility.

The typical valgusmõõtur consists of two arms connected by a central pivot point. One arm remains stationary, while the other moves along with the limb or body part being measured. A protractor-like scale on the instrument indicates the angle of the joint. When performing a measurement, the user aligns the stationary arm with a fixed anatomical landmark and then moves the articulating arm to follow the movement of the limb, reading the angle at the start and end of the range of motion.
