Vakuoláris refers to anything relating to or characteristic of a vacuole. Vacuoles are membrane-bound organelles found in plant cells and fungal cells, and also present in some protists and animal cells. In plant cells, the central vacuole can occupy a significant portion of the cell volume, playing roles in turgor pressure, storage of water, ions, nutrients, and waste products, as well as breaking down waste and macromolecules. The vacuolar membrane is called the tonoplast.
