Vaihteeton is a Finnish term that translates to "gearless" or "without gears" in English. It most commonly refers to a type of electric motor, specifically a direct-drive motor, where the rotor is directly connected to the driven load, eliminating the need for a gearbox. This design offers several advantages over traditional geared systems.

In a vaihteeton motor, the output speed of the motor is the same as the speed of the load, as there are no intermediate gears to alter the rotational speed. This direct connection can lead to higher efficiency because there are no mechanical losses associated with gear friction and meshing. It also results in a simpler and more compact system, as the gearbox, along with its associated lubrication and maintenance requirements, is removed.
