Vaihejännitteet refer to the voltages found between each phase conductor and the neutral conductor in a three-phase electrical system. In a balanced three-phase system, these voltages are ideally equal in magnitude and displaced from each other by 120 electrical degrees. This type of voltage is commonly used for powering single-phase loads, such as household appliances and lighting, within a building or facility that is supplied by a three-phase system. The neutral conductor provides a return path for the current from these single-phase loads. The magnitude of the vaihejännite is typically lower than the phase-to-phase voltage, often referred to as line voltage, by a factor of the square root of three (approximately 1.732). For example, in a common 400/230 V system, the line voltage is 400 V, and the vaihejännite is 230 V. Maintaining balanced vaihejännitteet is crucial for the efficient and reliable operation of single-phase equipment and for preventing excessive current in the neutral conductor.
