vCPUtä is a term used in cloud computing and virtualization to refer to a virtual CPU. It represents a portion of a physical CPU's processing power that is allocated to a virtual machine. When a hypervisor, the software that creates and manages virtual machines, runs on a physical server, it divides the server's resources, including its CPU cores, into smaller, isolated units. Each of these units can be presented to a virtual machine as a vCPU.

The number of vCPUs assigned to a virtual machine can significantly impact its performance. More vCPUs generally mean more processing capacity for the virtual machine, allowing it to run more demanding applications or handle a larger workload. However, the performance of a vCPU is not solely dependent on its count. Factors such as the underlying physical CPU architecture, the efficiency of the hypervisor, and the contention for physical resources among multiple virtual machines all play a role. Over-allocating vCPUs (assigning more vCPUs than the physical server can effectively support) can lead to performance degradation due to resource contention. Cloud providers typically offer various instance types with different vCPU configurations to suit diverse computing needs.
