A urostomy is a surgically created opening, or stoma, on the surface of the abdomen that allows urine to exit the body. This procedure is performed when the bladder is diseased, damaged, or has been removed, making it impossible to store or release urine naturally. The most common reason for a urostomy is bladder cancer.
