unitaristic

Unitaristic is a term used in various contexts, most notably in political science and theology, to describe a belief in or adherence to a single, unified entity or principle.

In political science, unitaristic refers to a system of government where the central government holds supreme authority. All other administrative divisions, such as provinces or states, exist only to carry out the will of the central government. There is no division of sovereignty, and sub-national governments derive their powers from the central authority, which can alter or abolish them at will. This contrasts with federalism, where power is divided between a central government and constituent political units, each with their own distinct spheres of authority. Examples of unitaristic states include France and the United Kingdom, though the latter has devolved some powers to Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

In theology, unitarism is a doctrine that affirms the absolute oneness of God. It rejects the Christian doctrine of the Trinity, which posits that God is one being in three co-equal persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Unitarians believe that Jesus was a human being, albeit one with a special relationship to God, but not divine in the same way as God the Father. This belief system is found in various religious traditions, with Unitarian Universalism being a prominent modern example.
