It functions as both an adjective (the undertrykte group) and, in some contexts, as a noun meaning “the oppressed.” The form derives from under- (under) and trykke/trycka (to press, to oppress). In usage, it often appears in discussions of political oppression, social inequality, and human rights.

Contexts and usage: In history and contemporary society, the undertrykte can be targeted by political regimes, discriminatory laws, or exploitative economic systems.
