Undertekning is a term used to describe the act of signing a document to indicate endorsement, consent, or agreement. In ordinary Norwegian usage, the more common terms are undertegning or underskrift, while undertekning appears mainly in Swedish-influenced texts or as a less common variant. The concept encompasses affixing one’s name, initials, or a digital identifier to bind oneself to the content of a document.

Signatures can be expressed in different forms. A handwritten signature is placed on paper documents, while electronic or digital signatures rely on electronic data and, in some cases, cryptographic certificates.
