täyskypärä

Täyskypärä is the Finnish word for a full-face helmet. This type of protective headgear covers the entire head, including the chin and jaw area, offering a higher level of protection compared to open-face helmets. Täyskypärät are commonly used in activities where impact to the face and head is a significant risk, such as motorcycling, downhill mountain biking, and skiing or snowboarding.

The design of a täyskypärä typically includes a hard outer shell made from materials like polycarbonate, ABS plastic, or fiberglass composites. Beneath the shell is an impact-absorbing liner, usually made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam. A chin bar is an integral part of the structure, providing crucial protection to the jaw and face. The helmet is secured to the head with a retention system, often a chin strap with a buckle or a quick-release mechanism. Ventilation is usually incorporated to help regulate temperature during use. The visor, or face shield, protects the eyes from debris, wind, and weather, and can often be easily lifted or replaced. Different models of täyskypärä may vary in weight, ventilation features, and the type of visor.
