Täysiaaltoilmaisin is a Finnish term that translates to "full-wave detector" or "full-wave rectifier" in English. It is an electronic circuit used to convert alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). Unlike a half-wave detector, which only utilizes one half of the AC waveform, a full-wave detector utilizes both halves, resulting in a more efficient and smoother DC output.

There are two primary configurations for a full-wave detector: the center-tapped transformer full-wave rectifier and the bridge rectifier. The center-tapped transformer configuration requires a transformer with a tertiary winding in the center of the secondary coil, along with two diodes. Each diode conducts during one half-cycle of the AC input. The bridge rectifier, on the other hand, uses four diodes arranged in a diamond formation and does not require a center-tapped transformer. It is generally more common due to its efficiency and simpler power supply requirements.

The output of a full-wave detector is pulsating DC, meaning it has a constant direction but varies in magnitude. To achieve a smoother DC voltage, a filter, typically a capacitor, is added in parallel with the load. This capacitor charges during the peaks of the rectified waveform and discharges slowly during the valleys, smoothing out the fluctuations.
