Tárcsafékrendszerek, commonly known as disc brake systems, are a type of brake that uses a caliper to squeeze two brake pads against a brake disc (or rotor) to create friction. This friction slows down or stops the rotation of a wheel. Disc brakes are widely used in modern vehicles, bicycles, and motorcycles due to their superior braking performance compared to older drum brake systems, especially under wet conditions.

The main components of a disc brake system include the brake disc, which rotates with the wheel, the brake caliper, which houses the brake pads, and the brake pads themselves. When the driver or rider applies the brakes, hydraulic fluid is pressurized and forced into the caliper. This pressure pushes the brake pads against the rotating disc. The friction generated converts the kinetic energy of the moving vehicle into heat, thus slowing it down.

Disc brake systems offer several advantages. They dissipate heat more effectively than drum brakes, reducing the risk of brake fade during heavy use. They also tend to be self-adjusting, meaning the clearance between the pads and the disc is automatically maintained as the pads wear down. Furthermore, they are generally easier to maintain and repair. While initially more expensive to manufacture, their performance and reliability have made them the standard for most braking applications.
