tummene

Tummene is a small volcanic island in the fictional Nordic Sea, part of the Arvenia archipelago. It covers about 9 square kilometers and has a roughly circular shape with a maximum elevation of 412 meters at Mount Lumin. The island lies about 12 kilometers southeast of Arvenia's main island and is surrounded by rich marine biodiversity.

The name Tummene derives from the Arvenian language, meaning "bright shore," reflecting its sunlit shoreline and frequent morning mists along the coast.

Geographically, Tummene consists of basaltic rock with rugged cliffs on the northern coast and sandy beaches to the south. The area experiences a temperate maritime climate, with mild summers and wetter winters, and a tendency toward swift microclimatic changes between the windward and leeward sides.

History and governance: Tummene is first documented in 17th-century nautical charts. A lighthouse, completed in 1854, helped steer ships through nearby channels. In 1990 the island was designated a nature reserve to protect breeding seabirds and endemic plant species. Administratively it is part of the Arvenia municipality and has no permanent resident population, being managed by a small ranger service and periodic scientific expeditions.

Economy and culture: The island's economy relies on controlled eco-tourism and seasonal fisheries. Visitors come for hiking, birdwatching, and coastal photography. An annual festival called Bright Shore celebrates maritime heritage, featuring traditional navigation demonstrations and local craft markets.

Flora and fauna: Tummene hosts seabird colonies, including kittiwakes and seasonal puffins, while marine mammals frequent the surrounding waters. Coastal meadows support a distinctive flora, including the endemic Arvenian thyme.
