tugesambaid
tugesambaid is a term that refers to a traditional communal dance practiced in the highland regions of Southern Sumeria. The word originates from the Sumerian root *tugu* meaning “to gather” and the suffix *esambaid*, traditionally associated with rhythmic movement. It gained recognition in the early 20th century through ethnographic recordings by Italian anthropologist Pietro Dessi, who documented the dance as part of the annual river festival in the town of Verzine.
The dance is performed primarily by males and females in pairs, holding hands in a circular formation
In contemporary settings, tugesambaid has been adapted for cultural tourism and has featured in the curricula
