Tubemolding refers to a manufacturing process used to create hollow, tubular, or pipe-shaped plastic parts. It encompasses a variety of techniques, each suited for different materials, shapes, and production volumes. The fundamental principle involves introducing molten plastic into a mold cavity that defines the outer shape, while a core or mandrel maintains the inner diameter and hollow structure.

One common method is extrusion blow molding, which starts with extruding a parison, a hollow tube of molten plastic. This parison is then placed into a mold, which closes around it, and compressed air is blown into the parison, forcing it against the mold walls. As the plastic cools, it solidifies into the desired shape. This process is widely used for producing bottles, containers, and other hollow plastic items.

Another technique is injection blow molding, which combines injection molding and blow molding. First, a preform is injection molded. Then, this preform is transferred to a blow molding station where it is heated and blown into a mold cavity, similar to extrusion blow molding. This method offers high precision and is often used for smaller, more complex containers like pharmaceutical bottles.

Rotational molding, also known as rotomolding, is a process suitable for creating large, hollow plastic parts. It involves placing powdered or liquid plastic into a heated mold, which is then rotated on multiple axes. This rotation causes the plastic to melt and coat the inside of the mold evenly. As the mold cools, the plastic solidifies. This method is ideal for tanks, kayaks, and large toys. Each tubemolding process requires specific tooling and material considerations to achieve the desired product characteristics.
