Trükimeetodid are various techniques used to reproduce text and images onto a substrate, typically paper. These methods have evolved significantly over centuries, each offering distinct advantages and applications.

One of the earliest and most influential methods was letterpress printing. This technique involves setting individual metal or wooden type pieces into a frame, inking them, and then pressing them onto paper. Movable type, developed in China and later refined by Gutenberg in Europe, revolutionized the dissemination of information.

Lithography, invented in the late 18th century, relies on the principle that oil and water repel each other. An image is drawn on a stone or metal plate with a greasy substance, and then the plate is inked. The ink adheres only to the greasy image, and the print is transferred to paper. This method is particularly well-suited for artistic reproductions and posters.

Offset lithography is a modern evolution of lithography. Instead of directly transferring ink from the plate to the paper, the image is first transferred to a rubber blanket cylinder, and then from the blanket to the paper. This indirect transfer process improves print quality and extends the life of the printing plate. It is the dominant method for commercial printing today, used for books, magazines, and newspapers.

Digital printing encompasses a range of technologies, including inkjet and laser printing. These methods print directly from digital files, eliminating the need for printing plates. Digital printing offers flexibility, fast turnaround times, and is ideal for short print runs and variable data printing, where each printed item can be unique.

Screen printing is another versatile method, especially for textiles and uneven surfaces. A stencil is created on a mesh screen, and ink is forced through the open areas of the screen onto the substrate using a squeegee. It allows for vibrant colors and can print on a wide variety of materials.
