Træstruktur refers to the internal arrangement and organization of wood tissue. This structure is fundamental to understanding wood's physical and mechanical properties, as well as its behavior during processing and use. At a macroscopic level, visible characteristics like grain pattern, growth rings, and the presence of knots are all part of the wood's structure. Growth rings, also known as annual rings, represent the layers of wood produced during a single growing season. Earlywood, formed in the spring, is typically less dense and has larger cells, while latewood, formed in the summer, is denser with smaller cells.

Microscopically, wood is composed primarily of cells. The two main types of cells in wood are tracheids and vessel elements, which are responsible for water transport. Other cell types include parenchyma cells, which store food reserves, and fibers, which provide structural support. The arrangement and proportion of these cell types, along with their shape and wall thickness, significantly influence wood's strength, hardness, and density.

The structure of wood is also affected by factors such as species, growing conditions, and how the wood is harvested and processed. For instance, wood from trees grown in harsh environments may have tighter growth rings and a more uniform structure. The way wood is cut from a log, such as plain-sawn, quarter-sawn, or rift-sawn, also alters the visible grain pattern and can affect dimensional stability.
