Their shells are usually small, ranging from 1 to 3 millimeters in length, and exhibit a slender, elongated shape with a smooth or slightly ribbed surface. The coloration varies but often includes shades of white, beige, or pale yellow, sometimes with faint markings.

The taxonomy of *Tripinnulatus* remains somewhat debated, with some researchers classifying it under broader genera like *Triphora* or *Pseudotriphora*. The genus was first described in the late 20th century, and only a few species have been formally recognized, including *Tripinnulatus triplicatus*, the type species.

These snails play a role in deep-sea ecosystems, contributing to the biodiversity of benthic (seafloor) communities. Due to their remote habitat, little is known about their biology, behavior, or ecological interactions. Most observations come from dredged or trawled specimens, limiting direct study of their natural history.
