trimetyylisilyyli
Trimetyylisilyyli is a chemical functional group with the formula (CH₃)₃Si-. It consists of a silicon atom bonded to three methyl groups. This group is often attached to other atoms or molecules, modifying their properties. It is a common protecting group in organic chemistry, particularly for alcohols. When attached to an alcohol, the trimethylsilyl ether is less reactive and can survive certain chemical reactions that would otherwise affect the free hydroxyl group. Later, the trimethylsilyl group can be easily removed to regenerate the alcohol.
In organic synthesis, the trimethylsilyl group can also be used to increase the solubility of a compound
