Triborder, or tri-border area, is a geographic region where three sovereign states meet at or near a single point and where the proximity of borders shapes daily life, transport, commerce, and culture. These areas often feature integrated cross-border infrastructure and institutions that coordinate on issues such as transport, trade, security, and tourism, despite differing legal frameworks.

Two widely cited examples are the Dreiländereck Basel in Europe (France, Germany, Switzerland), located around Basel and the towns of Weil am Rhein and Huningue, which forms a densely connected cross-border metropolitan area with shared rail and road links; and the Triple Frontier near Iguazú Falls in South America (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay) surrounding Puerto Iguazú, Foz do Iguaçu, and Ciudad del Este, a major commercial hub known for border markets and cross-border exchange.

Triborder regions illustrate cross-border cooperation as well as challenges arising from different currencies, languages, and regulatory regimes; they often rely on bilateral and trilateral agreements, cross-border commissions, and intergovernmental programs to coordinate infrastructure, customs, and security.
