Iguaçu

Iguaçu refers to a major river in South America and the spectacular waterfalls it forms along its course. The Iguaçu River originates in the Brazilian highlands and flows westward, forming part of the border between Brazil and Argentina. Its most famous feature is the Iguazu Falls, a breathtaking system of waterfalls comprising approximately 275 individual cascades spread over nearly 3 kilometers. The falls are situated within Iguazú National Park in Argentina and Iguaçu National Park in Brazil, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The sheer volume of water and the dramatic setting of Iguazu Falls make it one of the most impressive natural wonders of the world. The most prominent section of the falls is known as the Devil's Throat, a U-shaped chasm where much of the river's flow plunges into a misty abyss. The surrounding national parks are rich in biodiversity, harboring a variety of plant and animal life, including jaguars, tapirs, and numerous bird species. The falls are a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the globe who come to witness their power and beauty. Both national parks offer various viewpoints and walking trails, allowing visitors to experience the falls from different perspectives. The name "Iguaçu" is derived from the Guarani language, meaning "big water."
