Trekkingscykel, or trekking bike, is a bicycle designed for long-distance cycling and bicycle touring. It sits between road bikes and mountain bikes in geometry and ruggedness, prioritizing stability, comfort, and the ability to carry luggage over long distances. The frame is typically robust, often steel for durability and repairability, though aluminum frames are common for lighter weight. Frames often include braze-ons and eyelets for racks, fenders, bottles, and sometimes a center stand.

Wheel size is usually 700c, with tires ranging from 32 to 45 mm to handle paved roads and mixed surfaces. The steering geometry favors a relaxed riding position and stable handling when loaded. Drivetrains range from 2x or 3x setups to internal hubs, providing a wide gear range for hills. Brakes may be rim brakes, cantilevers or V-brakes, and many models now use hydraulic discs.

Equipment and compatibility: trekking bikes come with mounts for racks and fenders, durable luggage racks, and sometimes dynamo hubs for integrated lights. They are designed for comfort on multi-day trips, with ergonomic saddles and handlebars that offer multiple hand positions.

Use: ideal for self-supported touring on paved roads and light gravel, including long itineraries and mixed-surface trips where carrying capacity matters. Trekking bikes are also referred to as tourers or sport-touring bikes, and are distinguished from road racing and mountain bikes by their emphasis on stability and load carrying.
