transsubstrates
Transsubstrates is a term encountered in some biochemistry and chemistry texts but it does not have a single, widely accepted definition. Broadly, it is used to describe substrates in two related senses: (1) in membrane transport and cellular logistics, substances that are transported across a membrane or between compartments and thus become substrates on the opposite side of the membrane; (2) in stereochemical or reaction-context discussions, substrates that participate in trans-type processes, such as trans-esterification or trans-isomer formation, where “trans” indicates the relative configuration or transfer direction.
