Transmembranaalisten refers to molecules or processes that span across a biological membrane. This term is frequently used in cellular biology and biochemistry to describe components that are embedded within or traverse the lipid bilayer of a cell membrane.

A key example of transmembranaalisten structures are transmembrane proteins. These proteins have regions that are hydrophobic, allowing them to anchor within the lipid bilayer, and regions that are hydrophilic, interacting with the aqueous environments on either side of the membrane. Transmembrane proteins serve a variety of crucial functions, including acting as channels for ion and molecule transport, receptors for signaling molecules, and enzymes involved in metabolic pathways.
