The word combines the Spanish adjective transiente, meaning transient, with a suffix -eja to form a collective noun.

Characteristics include temporal boundedness, dependence on measurement or observer frame, and often a lack of persistent spatial localization. They may be described as events, structures, or signals that cannot be maintained without continuous conditions, and which leave transient effects such as temporary phase shifts or energy redistributions.

In theoretical discussions, transienteja are proposed as an abstraction for phenomena at temporal boundaries in dynamical systems, in some formulations of quantum field theory in curved spacetime, or in thought experiments about time-dependent phase transitions. In science fiction they are used as entities that appear briefly, influence outcomes, and disappear.
