trakeoler
Trakeoler are the finest, most distal components of the insect respiratory system. In English they are called tracheoles; in some languages the term “trakeoler” is used as a direct equivalent. They arise from the larger tracheae and ramify throughout body tissues, delivering oxygen directly to cells. Gas exchange occurs mainly by diffusion across the thin walls of the tracheoles, with carbon dioxide diffusing in the opposite direction.
Structure and function: Tracheoles are extremely narrow, highly branched tubes whose walls are in close contact
Distribution and significance: Trakeoler are found in terrestrial insects and represent a central adaptation that enables
