Tolerances ranges, commonly referred to as tolerance ranges, are the permissible deviations from a specified target value in engineering, manufacturing, and measurement. The range is defined by lower and upper limits and represents the span within which a part or measurement is acceptable. Standards such as ASME Y14.5, ISO 1101, and DIN provide structured methods for applying tolerance ranges, including definitions of tolerance zones, datum reference frames, and acceptance criteria. Tolerance analysis and stack-up calculations are used to predict whether assemblies will meet functional requirements, guiding design decisions and process controls.

In broader usage, tolerance ranges can describe environmental or physiological limits within which systems or organisms operate, or the acceptable span for measurement readings in a given context.
