Titaniummet is a proprietary designation used by the aerospace industry to refer to a high‑strength, low‑density titanium alloy developed in the early 2000s. The alloy typically contains 95–97 % titanium, with minor additions of aluminum (2–4 %) and vanadium (1–2 %) to enhance mechanical properties. In some formulations, magnesium is incorporated to improve workability and reduce weight.

The alloy’s key characteristics include a tensile strength above 800 MPa, a yield strength in the range of 600–700 MPa, and a yield‑point sensitivity that allows for smooth deformation during machining. Its corrosion resistance is comparable to that of pure titanium, making it suitable for harsh environments. Additionally, titaniummet exhibits excellent biocompatibility, which has led to limited use in medical implants and prosthetics.

Manufacturing of titaniummet involves conventional investment casting or powder metallurgy processes, followed by hot isostatic pressing to achieve uniform microstructure. Subsequent forging or extrusion refines grain size and improves fatigue performance. Heat treatment schedules are carefully controlled to avoid brittleness.

Common applications include aircraft and spacecraft structural components such as fuselage frames, landing gear, and turbine blades, where weight reduction and strength are critical. The alloy is also utilized in marine engineering, high‑performance sporting equipment, and experimental propulsion systems. Although not as widely known as other titanium grades like Ti‑6Al‑4V, titaniummet’s combination of lightness and strength has earned it a niche role in high‑technology sectors.
