Typical functions of tilsynmyndigheter include inspections, licensing, audits, guidance, investigations of incidents, enforcement actions and the imposition of administrative sanctions or corrective measures. They interpret and apply sectoral legislation, develop technical requirements, publish guidance for regulated entities and maintain registers or reporting systems. Many have powers to enter premises, demand documentation and initiate penalties where non‑compliance is found.
