tiedustelulinjat
Tiedustelulinjat, meaning intelligence lines or reconnaissance lines in Finnish, refers to a historical defensive system established by Finland during the Winter War and the Continuation War against the Soviet Union. These lines were not single, monolithic fortifications but rather a series of interconnected defensive positions, trenches, strongpoints, and obstacles designed to slow down and repel enemy advances. The concept was to create depth in defense, forcing the attacking forces to expend significant resources and time overcoming successive layers of resistance.
The most famous and extensive of these lines was the Mannerheim Line, located on the Karelian Isthmus.
