Tidevannsvariasjoner, often referred to as tidal fluctuations, are the regular rise and fall of sea levels that occur across the globe. These variations are primarily caused by the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and, to a lesser extent, the Sun. The Moon's gravity pulls on the Earth's oceans, creating a bulge on the side of the Earth facing the Moon and another bulge on the opposite side due to inertia. As the Earth rotates, different parts of the planet pass through these bulges, resulting in high tides and low tides.
The Sun also influences tidal variations, though its effect is about half as strong as the Moon's.
