Tibiaschaftfraktur refers to a fracture of the shaft of the tibia, the larger of the two bones in the lower leg. This type of fracture can occur due to direct trauma, such as a fall or a car accident, or indirect forces, like twisting injuries. The severity of a tibiaschaftfraktur can vary widely, ranging from a simple hairline fracture to a complete break with displacement of bone fragments.

Symptoms typically include severe pain at the site of the fracture, swelling, bruising, and an inability to bear weight on the affected leg. Deformity of the leg may also be present if the bone fragments have shifted significantly. Diagnosis is usually confirmed through X-rays, which can also help determine the exact location and pattern of the fracture.
