Teststrook is a small, flexible strip used to perform rapid diagnostic testing by applying a liquid sample. It is commonly used in point-of-care or home settings and is designed to yield a quick result without complex laboratory equipment.

The strip usually consists of a plastic support with one or more reagent-impregnated pads. When a sample is applied, capillary action draws the liquid along the strip, and chemical reactions produce a color change or a signal that can be read visually or with a dedicated reader. Results are typically qualitative or semi-quantitative, depending on the design.

Common applications include medical diagnostics such as urine test strips and pregnancy tests, as well as environmental testing for water quality and general chemistry indicators. Blood glucose test strips, used with a handheld meter, are another well-known example. Teststrips are manufactured in many configurations to detect different analytes.

Usage guidelines emphasize following the manufacturer’s instructions, including sample collection, timing, and the interpretation window. Results should be compared against a reference scale or read by a compatible device. Limitations include interference from improper storage, expired strips, and variation between batches.

Manufacture involves applying reagents to pads on a backing material, assembling protective packaging with desiccants, and conducting quality control. They are regulated as medical devices or in vitro diagnostics where applicable, with standards for accuracy, safety, and labeling.
