Termostaattipää, often referred to as a thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) head, is a key component in domestic heating systems. It is a self-regulating valve fitting attached to a radiator. Its primary function is to control the water temperature flowing into the radiator, thereby regulating the room's temperature. The termostaattipää contains a temperature-sensitive element, typically a wax or liquid-filled capsule, which expands or contracts with changes in ambient room temperature.

When the room temperature rises above the set point on the thermostaattipää, the element expands, pushing a pin that closes the valve. This reduces or stops the flow of hot water to the radiator, preventing overheating. Conversely, if the room temperature drops below the set point, the element contracts, retracting the pin and opening the valve. This allows more hot water to flow into the radiator, increasing its heat output and bringing the room temperature back up.
