Termosettinen refers to a type of plastic material, also known as thermosetting plastic or thermoset. These polymers undergo an irreversible chemical change when they are heated, forming a rigid, permanently cross-linked structure. Once cured, thermosets cannot be remelted or reshaped by subsequent heating, unlike thermoplastics which can be repeatedly softened and molded.

The curing process typically involves the application of heat, a catalyst, or high pressure, which causes the polymer chains to form strong covalent bonds with each other. This cross-linking creates a strong, rigid, and often brittle material that exhibits excellent thermal stability and resistance to solvents and creep. Common examples of thermosetting plastics include epoxy resins, phenolic resins, polyester resins, and vulcanized rubber. These materials are widely used in applications requiring high strength, durability, and resistance to heat and chemicals, such as in adhesives, coatings, composite materials, electrical insulation, and automotive parts. The irreversible nature of their curing means that thermosets are generally not easily recyclable in the same way as thermoplastics, though research into chemical recycling methods is ongoing.
