Termoparen, also known as thermocouples, are temperature-measuring devices. They are made of two different electrical conductors that are joined at one end. When the junction of the two metals is heated or cooled, it produces a voltage that is proportional to the temperature difference. This phenomenon is known as the Seebeck effect. The voltage generated by a thermocouple can be measured and converted into a temperature reading.

Thermocouples are widely used in various applications due to their robustness, wide temperature range, and relatively low cost. They are commonly found in industrial processes, scientific research, and everyday appliances such as ovens and thermostats. Different types of thermocouples exist, each made from specific metal combinations to suit different temperature ranges and environmental conditions. For instance, Type K thermocouples, made of chromel and alumel, are popular for their versatility and are suitable for measuring temperatures up to around 1250 degrees Celsius.

The accuracy of a thermocouple depends on several factors, including the type of thermocouple used, the quality of the junction, and the calibration of the measuring instrument. They are generally less accurate than resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) at lower temperatures but excel in high-temperature environments where RTDs may not be suitable. Thermocouples are a fundamental tool in temperature measurement and continue to be an essential component in many technological systems.
